Meet Your Week Of Pizza Participates
We are back with the Week of Pizza where we take 16 local Erie pizza spots in our May Madness single elimination bracket. We really wanted to focus on locally owned and operated establishments because they need our support! Plus, these 16 pizza spots beat out any chain anyways! There are 4 rounds which includes;
Saucy 16 on Monday 11th until Tuesday at 12:30 pm.
Cheesy 8 on Wednesday 13th until Thursday at 12:30 pm.
Flavor 4 on Friday 15th until Saturday 16th at 12:30 pm.
Championship on Saturday 16th until Sunday 17th at 12:30 pm.
Voting takes place on all three Hippoh social media platforms (@Hippohmobile) and results will be tallied from all three. We will also be posting exclusive content on some socials so make sure you check out all our social media (Some content might be a lil cheesy).
The 16 Week Of Pizza Participants:
You love a good family business story. Coppola’s Pizzeria is named for their grandparents who left their village of Collepietro (that rings off the tongue) to come to America. They are third-generation pizza makers and boy are they good at it. Check out their homemade dough and pizza sauce asap.
Johns Wildwood Pizzaria
Been around since 1979, John's Wildwood Pizzaria is an award-winning pizza spot is located inside Erie Brewing Co. You can grab some craft beer and pizza to bring home. They also have some quality toppings that will make it hard to pick which ones you want. They have pizza specials on Monday and Tuesday so check their website out.
Yum Yum’s Pizzeria
Fill your tum tum with some Yum Yums! What a great slogan. They have some crazy original pizza that will take your taste buds on a spin like their Pickle Pizza, The Cracker Pizza, and Chicken Jalapeno. They have 9 coupons with lots of savings on their website so check them out.
After almost 20 years, Sabo’s has been family owned and operated and is our only Fairview pizza spot. We know they are outside Erie but they were one of the top nominated pizza spots so we had to include them. Sabo’s Pizza loads on the quality toppings and has a variety of pizzas perfect for everyone. They have some great pizza and lunch specials on their website too.
Is ordering a pizza that everyone likes at a reasonable price a common issue? Well, Virgil’s gives you the power to satisfy everyone without pizza compromises. You can order any number of 4-inch squares and top each one however you want. They are also doing these awesome Take n’ Bake pizzas so you can bring Virgil’s Plate home with you. Now that’s American.
Steel City Pizza & Sandwich
I first heard about Steel City because of their Body Bag sandwich which has ham, salami, capicola, pepperoni, provolone & American cheese, 3 beef patties, 2 eggs, fries, and more on a whole loaf of bread all for $13.99. It’s about as amazing as you could imagine. That being said, Steel City has great pizza and you should check them out on Facebook for more info.
Mama Mia’s has been serving up pies since 1976 “just like mama used to make them.” This could make them one of the older pizza joints in the competition. Just watch owner Tony stretch the dough in this very Italian youtube video. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=27&v=CqheMFCU5KM&feature=emb_logo )
Check out their website for the full menu and pizza specials!

Valerio's has been an Erie favorite for over 25 years expanding to three locations around the city. Valerio's biggest size is the Sasquatch so if you’re as hungry as a yeti, call them up! They also have some great coupons on their website so check it before you order.
Stevo’s is one of the only pizza joints in Erie to offer both New York style and Chicago Deep Dish pizzas. If you’re lactose intolerant then Stevos Deep Dish might not be the best for you or your toilet! They have daily specials for lunch and all day with coupons on their website.
Crazy Oven, formerly known as Stevo’s Pizza that was located on Presque Isle, takes on a different pizza than Stevos and was nominated a few times on our social media. They are one of the only pizza spots on this list that also delivers beer to quench your thirst. They also have discounted food every day of the week! Since they are owned by the same company, its only fair that one moves on to the Cheesy 8.
Ginos & Joes
Nothing like a secret homemade sauce and dough prepared fresh every day. Gino & Joe’s uses some fresh ingredients and you can tell by just looking at their pizza. They also have some awesome pizza dinner meals to feed the whole family. Everybody eats!
Pizza Petes aims to satisfy everyone and cares about quality. They make gluten-free pizzas with their dough being preservative-free, dairy-free, and sugar-free. Pizza Petes also have some crazy pizzas like Mac N’ Cheese, Thai Peanut Chicken, or my personal favorite pizza I haven't eaten - Pete’s Pickle Pizza. If anyone has tried it, let me know how it is!
Slices on French
A great spot to grab a slice or a full pizza before a show, game, or night out (pre and post-pandemic). They are also doing Seagrams Spiked Slushies To-Go which will be perfect in the summer months. They have lunch and dinner specials every day which are posted to their Facebook.
Sticks and Brick's
That wood-fired oven makes those pizzas hit different but they also make New York-style pizza in all sizes. They also offer gluten-free and vegan mozzarella cheese so Sticks and Bricks can satisfy everyone. When this whole thing is over, they can bring their food truck right to your event. They also have daily specials, can’t beat that!

A 2 am favorite for every Gannon student and no wonder. (AKA as Club Porky’s). They offer great pizza at a great price. I bet you didn’t know that you can customize your pizza in so many different ways like 4 options for crusts - classic, cheese-stuffed, traditional thick crust, and gluten-free crust. Check out their website to see how you can customize your pizza perfectly.
My Dads Pizza
For over 25 years, My Dad’s Pizza has been whipping up pies in Harborcreek. They have Take N’ Bake uncooked pizzas as well so you can bring Dad’s Pizza home to enjoy whenever. Lunch and dinner specials available on their website.
Remember to stay positive and stay tuned for the results of the Saucy 16.
